[Jungle In-Justice] ASUU threatens strike over lynching of ABU Prof mistaken for 'Boko Haram' ...as police nab 2 suspects

ASUU has threatened to shut down Nigerian universities following the lynching of a stranded ABU Professor who was mistaken for a Boko Haram insurgent by villagers in Kano state.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to shut down universities in the country if the Inspector General of Police (IGP) fails to arrest the people who killed Professor Ahmad Mustapha Falaki of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

Falaki, the Director of ABU's Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR), was suspected to be Boko Haram member and lynched by villagers at the Fala village in Kibiya LGA, Kano state.

In a Thursday statement signed by the ABU-ASUU Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Aliyu and Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Liman, urged the IGP to bring the killers to justice.

The union said the deceased was on official assignment when he was killed.
“Professor Falaki was on an official assignment when his car was snatched by gunmen at Fala village. He was at Fala for more than two hours making calls to officers in ABU and his family," the statement read.

They accused the police of causing Falaki’s death.
“Professor Falaki identified himself by presenting them with his ABU identity card and driver’s licence.
"But for some inexplicable reasons, these policemen ignored the identification insisting that for all they care the deceased and his entourage were members of Boko Haram who had escaped from Kibiya.
"They then began to strike them with machetes and other clubs. Professor Falaki was struck a fatal blow and died on the scene.”
The union says it will seek redress through other means if the IGP fails to find the killers.
