3 Habits That Will Keep You Permanently Broke
Contrary to popular opinion, the state of being broke is not only when your account balance reads zero and you don't have cash on you. Rather, being broke is a state in which you do not have enough funds to cover an immediate/pressing concern. It might interest you to know that you could still be broke irrespective whether you earn N10,000 per month or N10,000,000 per month.
Hence, everybody experiences the feeling of being broke at different times in his or her lives. However, some people are always broke and they can't seem to escape the tyranny of wondering when the next paycheck will arrive.
If you keep any of the three habits below, you're most likely always broke, if you keep the habits and are not yet broke, you are very well on your way to "Brokeville".
I hope you are able to spot the danger associated with these three habits and overcome the habits before you become a permanent resident in "Brokeville".
#1. No Idea Where Your Money Goes
Have you ever stopped in the middle of the month, stared at the minimum account balance left in the bank and wonder where all your money went? It looks as if some devils are poking holes in your account because you have made plans for what you wanted to do with the money in your head, and here you are on the 17th of the month, you haven't done those things and the money is gone.
Taking notes of expenses and writing them down is one of the hardest things to do, especially when you have to write down the number of times you told the lady at the store to keep the change. However, if you don't know where your money is going per time, you'll not be able to plan a budget not to talk about plugging budget leaks- and that's a ticket to "Brokeville".
#2. Mistaking Extra Money for "Free Money"
If we'd be honest with ourselves, all of us get some extra/unexpected monies a number of times in the month. However, since we have already made a budget for the "expected" money, it is very easy to take the extra money on a spending spree as you order that sushi you've been promising yourself since last month.
I don't have issues with pampering yourself or even deviating from your budget to do something if it really makes you happy. However, the extra money might be put to better use paying down debts or increasing your investments so that you could have all the sushi you can ever want somewhere down the road.
#3. Jumping on Offers to Buy Two, Get One Free
Retailers often use enormous price slashes, discount offers, and promotional gimmicks to get you into their stores and they often succeed incredibly well. Many people will rationalize that deviating from a budget or getting into debt (God Forbid) to buy items that are some 30% off is a smart investment.
However, the fact that an item is available at a discount does not mean you should buy it now especially if it wasn’t on your budget. You don't necessarily need to replace your TV just because a store is offering 30% off on new TV sets. Of course, ask yourself if you really need the third item, when they dangle the "Buy Two, Get One Free" offer before you.

Lil Wayne Files Lawsuit Asking For $51 million From Birdman
So the in-house battle between Lil Wayne and mentor, Birdman still rages on.

According to TMZ, Wayne was supposed to get a $8 million advance when he began recording in December 2013 and another $2m when he completed the album a year later, but up till this moment he hasn’t gotten a dime
5 Tips To Successfully Pass That Job Interview
5 Tips To Successfully Pass That Job Interview
I know how it feels to be tensed and nervous when called for an interview! We don’t seem to know how to get a grip on our nerves thereby letting all that overshadow our brilliance and ability. Luckily, I have put together a few tips on how to get ready for that day and be in control.
1. DRESS THE PART
How you dress is key! Your prospective employer will definitely put that into consideration because first impressions matter and tell a lot about your personality. Ensure to dress more professionally when going for certain interviews even when you’re not sure of what is expected of you. Do not wear slippers, ill-fitting clothes, stained clothes, too much accessories, sandals, shirts with popped collars or provocative dresses to an interview. Instead go for a more polished look and update your wardrobe with black shoes, heels, dresses, jackets, ties, shirts and a black, blue or grey suit. Don’t also come to an interview chewing gum or drinking coffee, that’s a big turn off to an interviewer. Too much perfume or not enough deodorant won’t help either. Not being appropriately dressed or having weak looking shoes is also a point missed. Talking or texting on your cell phone or listening to an iPod while waiting to be called for the interview may be your final strike and you could be done with your candidacy before you even say a word. Before the day of your interview, put together all what you need and ensure they are clean and ironed.Dress the Part for an Interview1
2. IMPROVE YOURSELF
Apart from you looks, what really matters is your brains, experience and skills. So get yourself prepared and in the right spirits for an interview. Make efforts to prepare your interview technique including knowing what’s on your resume, being able to present why you are qualified for the job, why you are interested in the company, and practicing staying calm and focused. It’s important to remember that the image the interviewer has of you when he first meets you is the one that is going to last. Ensure you know exactly the names of companies you have worked for and special dates. Your verbal communications are important. Don’t use slang. Speak clearly and definitely. If you need to think about a response to an interview question, that’s fine. It’s better to think before you talk than to stumble over your words. Be attentive, calm and confident but do not show signs of over confidence. Speak when you are asked to.Improve yourself before an Interview
3. KNOW MORE ABOUT THE COMPANY
One big mistake you can make is to be invited by a company for an interview and no nothing about them or the job. So avoid such embarrassments by finding out all that you can about the company and the advertised position. Take some time in advance, to use the Internet to know as much as about the company as possible. Check their website, annual report, check their social media pages, LinkedIn. Spend time, as well, talking to employees who you know about what it entails and other things you need to know about the company. Finding out more about a company also enables you to have questions for the interviewer.
4. PRACTICE INTERVIEWING
Like they say “If you fail to plan then you plan to fail”. Before you go to a job interview, take the time to review the most common interview questions you will most likely be asked. Ensure you have answers to questions like;
What’s your biggest weakness?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Why do you want this job?
Why did you leave your last job?
What is your greatest strength?
How will your greatest strength help you perform?
How would you describe yourself?
Do you consider yourself successful? Why?
How do you view yourself?
Who do you compare yourself to?
How do you handle stress and pressure?
What motivates you?
What has been the greatest disappointment in your life?
Tell me about yourself.
Get familiar with these questions and come up with appropriate answers or search online if you’re not sure of what to say.Practice Interviewing
5. MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT
One way of showing confidence is maintaining eye contact and sitting upright. As you answer your questions look into the interviewer(s) eyes and speak loud and clearly. Make sure you aren’t speaking too slow or too fast and that your answers are stated with confidence. If your nerves are starting to fail you then just relax and take a deep breathe before you answer your next question.

Microsoft's Bill Gates insists Artificial Intelligence is a threat
Bill Gates said he could not understand why people were not concerned by AI
Humans should be worried about the threat posed by artificial Intelligence, Bill Gates has said.
The Microsoft founder said he didn't understand people who were not troubled by the possibility that AI could grow too strong for people to control.
Mr Gates contradicted one of Microsoft Research's chiefs, Eric Horvitz, who has said he "fundamentally" did not see AI as a threat.
Mr Horvitz has said about a quarter of his team's resources are focused on AI.
During an "ask me anything" question and answer session on Reddit, Mr Gates wrote: "I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence. First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well.
"A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don't understand why some people are not concerned."
His view was backed up by the likes of Mr Musk and Professor Stephen Hawking, who have both warned about the possibility that AI could evolve to the point that it was beyond human control. Prof Hawking said he felt that machines with AI could "spell the end of the human race".
Mr Horvitz has said: "There have been concerns about the long-term prospect that we lose control of certain kinds of intelligences. I fundamentally don't think that's going to happen."
He was giving an interview marking his acceptance of the AAAI Feigenbaum Prize for "outstanding advances" in AI research.
"I think that we will be very proactive in terms of how we field AI systems, and that in the end we'll be able to get incredible benefits from machine intelligence in all realms of life, from science to education to economics to daily life."
Mr Horvitz runs Microsoft Research's lab at the parent company's Redmond headquarters. His division's work has already helped introduce Cortana, Microsoft's virtual assistant.
Despite his own reservations, Mr Gates wrote on Reddit that, had Microsoft not worked out, he would probably be a researcher on AI.
"When I started Microsoft I was worried I would miss the chance to do basic work in that field," he said.
He added that he believed the firm he founded would see "more progress... than ever" over the next three decades.
"Even in the next 10 [years,] problems like vision and speech understanding and translation will be very good."

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES FRIDAY, 30TH JANUARY by Chris Oyakhilome
SUCCESS IS NOT ACCIDENTAL
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).
To be a success in any field of human endeavour, whether in business,
politics or in some kind of commerce, is not by accident. It must be
prepared for; the future belongs to those who prepare for it. The one
who fails to plan has most certainly planned to fail. That means nothing
just happens. You make things happen.
Many good things can happen for you along the path of life without you necessarily preparing for them. But that’s just like ripe oranges falling off the tree; the best ones don’t fall like that all the time; you’ve got to pluck them off the tree. For example, you didn’t wait for salvation to “fall” on you. Though the Bible tells us the Lord Jesus consummated the work of salvation on the Cross and made it available to everyone, some people will still go to hell because they didn’t accept it. That’s not God’s fault; it was a choice they made not to accept it.
As a child of God, you’re the offspring of success, because your heavenly Father is a success. Jesus Christ is a success; you therefore, can’t be anything less. Success is your birthright. However, just because you’ve got the genes of success in you doesn’t mean you’re going to live up to your calling. You’ve got to do something about it. You’ve got to organize yourself for it. Plan for it and work towards it.
Success and failure are neither accidental nor mysterious. If you consistently practise the principles of success according to God’s Word, as recorded in our opening verse, you’re guaranteed to experience good success in every area of your life. On the other hand, the one who lives without vision, purpose and a sense of direction, will certainly experience failure in life. For many years, I’ve exceeded my goals, and the reason is simple: I chose to win and applied the principles of success. Success isn’t accidental, and it’s not enough to hope for it; you make it happen and it’ll be so.

Laurence Fishburne’s Daughter Montana Discourages Women from Entering Porn Industry
Laurence Fishburne’s family life was turned upside down three years ago when his 19-year-old daughter Montana launched a career in porn. The “Matrix” actor was reportedly “very hurt” over his daughter’s choices, but she carried on. The younger Fishburne, known as Chippy D, earned $60,000 for making a sex tape for Vivid Entertainment, the same company that shelled out millions for Kim Kardashian’s now infamous tape.
Fishburne’s hopes of becoming the next Kim Kardashian weren’t realized, after she reportedly didn’t receive another penny from the sales of her tape.
In an expose´revealing celebrities profits from sex tapes, Fox News‘ industry insider revealed:
“Montana Fishburne’s tape sold pretty well. That was a completely different time. It was $60,000 up front, but she didn’t get 70 percent of the tape sales.”
Montana Fishburne reportedly added to Fox News:
4 Things Your Kids Need To See You Do In Your Marriage
Here is a list of things I personally think kids need to see us
doing, as couples, in our marriages. What would you add to the list?
1. Pray
For me, this one was the hardest. Religion might have been woven in my childhood somewhere, but I don’t ever recall praying as a family. Prayer was always addressed as something you did in your personal time with God. So praying together as a couple and as a family was a little odd at first. (Not for the kids but for us) Desiring our family to have a prayer time together, we started at dinner with my husband leading. Slowly, the kids started praying around the table. Now, it’s not uncommon for the kids to see us, as a couple, praying over the smallest matters. Before big decisions are made, the kids know it will be prayed about. If you want your kids to have a desire for God, they need to see a genuine desire for Him from you. And I can tell you first hand that it can do wonders for your marriage when you share such intimate times.

2. Make decisions
Children should see their parents consulting one another before making decisions, be they big or small. There is nothing wrong with a couple disagreeing on what the best decision for the family might be. The point for your children is not to see who wins. The point is to show them that even in times when you disagree, you can find a compromise. Allowing your children to see you making decisions TOGETHER will not only show them how to be a decision maker but a team player. Decision making should never be one sided.
3. Fight
Yes, it’s truly OK for your children to see you at a time where you just don’t like one another very much. But I do not mean physical confrontation or angry outbursts where you are directing profanity or insults toward your partner. THAT IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE. But your kids won’t be in therapy if they see mom and dad disagree either. In fact, fighting is a chance to let your kids see how to handle conflict respectfully and maturely.
I had a friend that idolized her parent’s marriage. She never saw them fight or disagree. When she got married, she had distorted expectations of her spouse. It caused great tension and eventually led to a divorce.

6 Things Your Soul Wants You To Know. How to feed your innerman with the right thoughts.
We all wander through life searching for a higher purpose. We live with the same questions. Who are we? Why are we here? What are we meant to be doing? Am I living my best life?
Throughout my life I have pondered these questions. My experiences with over 400 deaths as a frontline social worker in a busy ER gave me the greatest insights and new understandings about death, dying and how the soul wishes to express itself in life.
Each life experience is an invitation to live as closely as possible to your soul’s true essence.
To help you to do that – this is what your soul wants you know…
1. You are OK just as you are.
The main goal of life is to not really change, grow or transform yourself. It is to be at peace with who you are at any given moment despite what you have done or not done; said or not said. Transformation is a choice we all have, but from the soul’s perspective, it is not the greatest priority.
2. Your soul invites you to view yourself through a lens of understanding.
While the way we respond to events in our life holds significance to some of our happiness, more important are the thoughts you have toward yourself as you critique whether you handled your response to a situation well. Too often we criticize ourselves for not handling a situation well. Thoughts such as, “Why on earth did I say that?“ or “I was just way too emotional for that situation” are some common examples.
Your soul is calling you to view yourself kindly and instead say to yourself, “I did the best I could at the time based on what I knew and my best was good enough”.
3. Your soul wants you to know that you are meant to feel deeply.
We are not here to brush over our experiences, but to experience our emotions and listen to our feelings as they guide us either closer to, or further from, what is best.
4. You are here to attune yourself with the good, the brightest, best and most delightful.
We are here to know the delights, feel the lightness and most of all, to know love, kindness, compassion and joy.
For Ladies – 3 Clues He’s A Keeper
Think you’ve found “Mr. Right?” While you’ve probably already rated his looks, career and sexiness on your own mental scale, there are some other things to consider.
Relationship expert, Lisa Steadman says that women tend to look at all the wrong things when determining the worth of a new relationship. We need to get clear about how love should feel, not just look,” she says.
Here are her 3 ways to tell whether he’s someone to hold onto:
He makes you feel the right way.
The physical attraction that goes along with a new relationship can often overshadow some of the larger issues of compatibility, and women should be wary of this fact.
“As women, we know what we want him to look like; maybe we even have a mental list,” says Steadman. “We need to scrap the looks list though, and write this down: How do I want love to feel?”
A man who makes you feel validated and important should get the chance to stick around — even if he’s not exactly the physical picture you envisioned.
His personality matches or complements yours.
Depending on who you ask, the best relationships are between two peas in a pod or they gel because opposites attract. There’s no official love formula that works for every couple on the planet, but there are signs when two personalities are simply not going to coexist happily. “The key is to look for a man with a personality that plays nicely with yours,” advises Steadman.
“I love adventure, so a man who’s a homebody or couch potato would never work for me, but for others that might be the perfect guy,” explains Steadman. “I also knew that because of my own high energy, I needed someone grounded.”
If a guy has similarities in personality to a failed relationship of the past, keep that in mind, too. If you find that it’s a struggle to just be yourself around the new person, it may be time to move on.

THEME : STOREHOUSE FOR WONDERS
Memorise:
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not went. Psalm 23:1
Read: 1st Kings 17:12-16,
12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR : JEREMIAH 14:1-16:13 and ACTS 17:1-15
Message
You will observe that ever since God rested from His work in Genesis 2:2, He has been working on and through His earlier creations in propagating His purpose. For example, God never created another set of man and woman after the first man and woman had been created. Rather, he charged those He had already created to be faithful, to multiply and to replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28). When God is confronted with a need, He will use what is already available in His creation to meet the need.
When God was confronted with the need to feed His prophet for a number of years during a famine, He needed a storehouse of wonders to meet this need. The widow of Zarephath’s house become this storehouse for wonders. The man of God, Elijah, discovered a barrel of flour and a cruse of oil that were almost empty in this house. However, it was not the prophet but the God of wonders who located that storehouse for wonders, and He sent His prophet there (1st Kings 17:8-9). We must learn some lessons from this story of the storehouse for wonders. First, the house was available for the God of wonders to use. My prayer for you is that whenever the God of wonder wants to turn a house to a house for wonders, it will be yours in Jesus’ Name. The question is: will be yours in Jesus’ Name. The question is: will you be ready to surrender your house to the God of wonders to use for His glory?
Secondly, the widow did not shy away from a difficult assignment. Although it was a difficult thing for her to give Elijah her last meal, she obeyed the command for God and did as the prophet said. Hence her house became the storehouse for wonders. Her barrel of flour and her cruse of oil became instruments of wonders. Thirdly, this woman did not only know the wonder-working God, she was a sincere and straightforward woman of faith. She stated her case as it was. She said, “This is our last meal; we can’t with it. “ if it were some of us, we would not even admit that we have anything at all. This woman seemed to be saying to herself,
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want, even if I surrender my last meal to Him.”
This woman exposed her miracle meal to the wonder-working God to work with. This was the exact thing the young led in Matthew 14:17-20 did, and he went home with twelve basketfuls as the interest on the five loaves and two fishes he lent to the wonder-working Lord. I pray that the Lord will feed your fat even in the time of famine in Jesus’ Name.

This was the exact thing the young led in Matthew 14:17-20 did, and he went home with twelve basketfuls as the interest on the five loaves and two fishes he lent to the wonder-working Lord. ***** Rhapsody Of Realities ***** WHY STILL THE “GOD OF JACOB”? Friday, January 23, 2015.
And God said moreover unto Moses,
Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your
fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,
hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial
unto all generations (Exodus 3:15).
The Bible shows us quite clearly that God is very interested in the meaning of names. Hence, He changed the name of Abram (exalted father) to Abraham (father of many), and Jacob (deceiver) to Israel, meaning a prince. However, you’d notice that even after changing Jacob’s name to Israel, he still introduced Himself to Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Why still the God of Jacob, since He had changed the man’s name to Israel? After all, He didn’t say, “I’m the God of Abram,” but “the God of Abraham.”
The reason is that God was at the time concerned about the attitude of Israel as a nation. The people of Israel at that time acted in a manner that wasn’t consistent with God’s will for them. They acted in a way that depicted them as not different from other nations, and whenever they so acted, He called them Jacob. However, when they acted according to His Word, He called them Israel. Israel means a prince of power with God, whereas Jacob means swindler or deceiver. Thus, in saying, “I’m the God of Jacob,” instead of Israel, He lets us know that irrespective of Israel’s behaviour, He was still their God, and remained faithful to them.
It reveals something about the character of God: He’s faithful to us even when we’re not. He doesn’t change His character because of your character and behaviour. Whether you act like “Jacob” or you act like “Israel,” His Word concerning you is steadfast: He has loved you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3); He’s already accepted you as His very own (Ephesians 1:6). He doesn’t turn His back on you just because you erred.
God’s promises and blessings are not for you because you have acted like “Israel”; they’re yours because you’re in Christ. However, He expects you to be steadfast and unmovable, with unshakable faith in His Word.

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Message
The blessings that can be regarded as irreversible are those which come from God. God Almighty decided to give irreversible blessings to Abraham. In Genesis 22:16-17, God declared thus:
“…By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;”
The condition nature of divine blessings makes some of them irreversible. When you fulfil some spiritual conditions for divine blessings, God will show Himself mighty, faithful and dependable in your life. Nobody is able to reverse a divine blessing, except God Himself. He will only reverse it if the recipient defaults in the terms of His covenant. For example, God reversed the promise He made to Eli when he and his sons failed to live to live by the terms of the covenant that made them God’s priest (1st Samuel 2:30). If God decides to bless you and you mess up, He can change a blessing to a curse.
The faithfulness of God in keeping His promise to Abraham is demonstrated in Genesis 26, while the irreversible nature of this promise is demonstrated in Genesis 35. In these two instances, the Almighty God reiterated to Isaac and Jacob that the promise He made to Abraham was an everlasting covenant.
Before a person can enjoy irreversible blessings, there are certain conditions he or she must fulfil in Jesus Christ. These include remarkable love towards God, sacrificial giving and commitment to holiness and worship. All these attributes are found in Jesus Christ, and they can rub off on anyone who accepts him as Lord and personal Saviour. The Bible in Colossians 1:19-20 says:
“For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
To enjoy irreversible blessings therefore, you must establish a lasting relationship with the Almighty Father, from whom all blessings flow, through Jesus Christ.

Are you depressed without knowing it? Many of us simply don’t understand what depression looks like
You tell yourself you’re just tired or forgetful but maybe you should be
seeking help. Many of us simply don’t understand what depression looks
like
It always amazes me how long it took me to figure out I was
depressed. My dad had bipolar and my sister was diagnosed with
depression over a decade ago, so you’d think I’d know the signs. But it
still took a persistent friend to persuade me that my low moods,
constant tiredness, poor appetite and inability to concentrate were all
signs of the same thing and that I really did need to seek help.
Statistically, between 8% and 12% of us will experience a period of depression before the year is out, according to the Office for National Statistics. But many will never be diagnosed. Despite increased awareness of mental health issues, people can live with a range of symptoms without ever realising they are depressed – as I did for several months.
“Some of my patients have been surprised and shocked when I’ve told them they were depressed,” says clinical psychologist Angel Adams. “They think it’s something else. If they have a lack of energy or fatigue, they might just think they’re doing too much. Sometimes they think, ‘It’s just this illness’ or ‘I had a break-up with somebody’, but really they’re experiencing depression as well as the illness or the grief reaction.”
Many of us simply don’t understand what depression looks like. “People don’t quite understand that you can still function and have depression,” says Adams. “A lot of people think if you have depression you’re going to quit your job and so on, but many people continue to work, continue to function but to a very different degree. You don’t have to be suicidal to be depressed. You can just be clinically depressed and think, ‘This is the way my life is.’”
Although no two cases are ever exactly the same, there are a number of factors to look out for.
The low mood may well be worse in the morning. “It’s a phenomenon called diurnal variation, which is a great way of saying you feel much sadder in the morning than you do in the afternoon,” says Paul Salkovskis, professor of clinical psychology and applied science at Bath University. “It’s often accompanied by a mood flip. Around 2pm you suddenly feel a change, as if a switch has been flipped.”
“Anhedonia probably translates best as loss of interest,” says Salkovskis. “It’s feeling listless, feeling totally flat, as if the world is colourless, everything is rubbish.”
This can extend to relationships, with the result that people with depression often become isolated. Adams says: “People who are depressed tend to find a sanctuary. They don’t want to be around people, they don’t go out as much, they spend more time at home.”
There may also be a biological cause, as depression is linked with hormonal changes.
“It can be difficult to go to sleep,” says Salkoskis, “but typically with more severe depression it’s about early waking – people wake up around 4am and can’t go back to sleep.”
“Pain is an almost entirely psychological phenomenon,” says Salkovskis. “What is happening in your life will impact on pain. A fine example is soldiers in wartime getting a finger shot off and being carried off the field in a state of euphoria, laughing. For most of us, if our finger was shot off, we wouldn’t be laughing. Pain is made worse or better depending on your psychological state.”
Salkovskis explains: “Imagine you lose your job and become severely depressed and then somebody says to you, ‘You need to get another job.’ If you’re not depressed, you think, ‘I should get my CV in order, I should register with a couple of agencies, I should ask around my contacts and see if there’s anything going’ – your memory is giving you highly specific things to do. If you’re depressed, you’re thinking, ‘I have to get a job … umm …’ You can’t think beyond the general. That impairs problem-solving.”
“Using your gut is something reserved for a particular type of decision – those that are important to us,” comments Salkovskis. “For example, you meet the man of your dreams and he asks you to marry him. You have to consider many different factors but the top level of decision making is the gut feeling. So if you’re depressed, very important decisions in particular will be very hard to make.”
In addition, if you’re depressed you may simply be less motivated. “You know everything ends in failure, so there’s no point,” says Salkovskis.
If you recognise these symptoms in yourself or someone you know, it’s important to seek help from your GP, local counselling service or a charity such as Mind.

Although no two cases are ever exactly the same, there are a number of factors to look out for.
Low mood
This is, of course, the most obvious sign of depression. “Often people with depression have a feeling of low self-esteem and unworthiness,” says Adams. “A person who is depressed and doesn’t know it may become more critical and judgmental about themselves – they might self-blame. And you can become much more irritable with other people.”The low mood may well be worse in the morning.
Lack of interest and enjoyment
Anhedonia, as psychologists call it, is another very common symptom of depression. In this state you no longer get pleasure from things you once enjoyed, and struggle to make any kind of effort.“Anhedonia probably translates best as loss of interest,” says Salkovskis.
Loss of appetite
People with depression may overeat, indulging in so-called comfort eating, but more often they lose their appetite – another example of anhedonia. “They simply lose the will to eat,” says Salkovskis.Decrease in libido
Anhedonia can also have an impact on your sex life. “It’s scarcely surprising,” says Salkovskis. “If everything is rubbish, presumably your relationship is rubbish, and everything is pointless, and why would your partner want to have sex with you anyway?”There may also be a biological cause, as depression is linked with hormonal changes.
Insomnia and fatigue
Many people with depression report disturbance to their sleep patterns. Some find themselves sleeping too much due to constant fatigue, but wakefulness is more common.“It can be difficult to go to sleep,” says Salkoskis, “but typically with more severe depression it’s about early waking – people wake up around 4am and can’t go back to sleep.”
Aches and pains
Depression can increase your susceptibility to pain. This may present as unexplained aches and pains that don’t go away, even with treatment.“Pain is an almost entirely psychological phenomenon,” says Salkovskis.
Poor memory
When you are depressed, your memory becomes “over-general” and you find it hard to recall details.Salkovskis explains: “Imagine you lose your job and become severely depressed and then somebody says to you, ‘You need to get another job.’ If you’re not depressed, you think, ‘I should get my CV in order, I should register with a couple of agencies, I should ask around my contacts and see if there’s anything going’ – your memory is giving you highly specific things to do. If you’re depressed, you’re thinking, ‘I have to get a job … umm …’ You can’t think beyond the general. That impairs problem-solving.”
Indecisiveness
When you’re depressed you’re likely to have what psychologists call “elevated evidence requirement”. In other words, you want to be more certain before making decisions – and struggle to trust your gut feelings.“Using your gut is something reserved for a particular type of decision – those that are important to us,” comments Salkovskis. “For example, you meet the man of your dreams and he asks you to marry him. You have to consider many different factors but the top level of decision making is the gut feeling. So if you’re depressed, very important decisions in particular will be very hard to make.”

A NEW TREATMENT FOR CANCER PROMISES TO SIGNIFICANTLY CUT DOWN SIDE EFFECTS
Is proton therapy the 'magic bullet' for cancer?
(CNN)Even after decades of battling one of the world's biggest killers, the treatment of cancer is still an inexact science.
Successful methods such as chemotherapy work by killing the cancer cells, but they also destroy healthy tissue.
Health
practitioners have been searching for a magic bullet that goes straight
to the source of the cancer -- and everything from monoclonal
antibodies, which carry cancer drugs direct to cancer cells, to straight
surgery to cut out tumors have been used with varying degrees of
success.
In Belgium, engineer and
nuclear physicist Yves Jongen is pioneering a new therapy that targets
cancers with proton radiation; a therapy that offers precision and
minimal side effects.
"I started to designing equipment (for) proton therapy of cancer -- that was a radically new idea," Jongen told CNN.
Encased
in a two-metre thick concrete bunker that serves as a radiation shield,
one of Jongen's cyclotron machines produces proton beams to treat
cancer patients.
"In this space we
accelerate the protons and we give them a higher and higher velocity
until they reach two thirds of the speed of light -- that's 200,000 km
per second and this acceleration takes place in the shape of a spiral,"
he said.
"That's needed if you want to be able to penetrate one foot into the body of a patient."
Once
the proton beam has been generated, it's piped into a treatment room
where patients receive a powerful dose of targeted radiation that kills
only those cancerous cells.
"It does a lot less collateral damage to the patient," Jongen said. "That's the great thing about proton therapy."
While
proton therapy is a giant step forward, it's not yet the magic bullet
that clinicians are looking for. So far, it is not effective against all
types of cancer.
"There are a number
of cancers which are not localized," he said. "If you look at leukemia,
which is cancer of the blood cells, there is nowhere to shoot -- it's
all through the body."
The other drawback is that the cyclotron is not cheap.
Each system -- and the bunker needed to house it -- doesn't leave much change from $125 million. Currently there are just 43 operational particle therapy facilities worldwide, with a total of 121 treatment rooms.
As
the fame of the process has started to spread, some people have been
taking desperate measures to get treatment. One British couple last year
even sparked an international manhunt
after they removed their son from hospital without doctors' permission
to get to a proton center in Prague in the Czech Republic.
Proton treatment is not yet available on Britain's National Health Service.
While
the proton therapy market is expected to more than double by 2018, with
an estimated 300 proton therapy rooms, Jongen's Brussels-based company
IBA is working on a smaller and cheaper model they hope will make proton
therapy more accessible.
"It would be
much less expensive making it more possible for a hospital to afford it
-- a smaller system can already treat a relatively large number of
patients per year."
At the moment,
fewer than 1% of cancer patients are treated with proton therapy, but
Jongen is hopeful that smaller and cheaper machines will be the game
changer.
"I have a number of letters
from parents of young kids saying if it had not been for this treatment
we would have lost our kid," he said.
"That's
something I really cherish. When I feel a bit depressed, for whatever
reason, I go back to those letters and they are very exciting."

Jonathan Wants Elections Postponed for 6 Months, INEC Says Elections Will Hold As Scheduled
Plans by President Goodluck Jonathan
and his team to scuttle the general elections scheduled for February
have come to light, with National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki openly
calling for postponement of the elections.
Sambo spoke at a Chattam House lecture in London, offering the excuse that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not distributed Permanent Voters Cards across the country as was expected.
SaharaReporters had reported several months ago that President Goodluck Jonathan was reluctant to hold national elections because his popularity had dwindled considerably and he feared losing the election.
In the last few days, as the popularity of General Muhammadu Buhari for the presidency has grown, Mr. Jonathan has spent vast sums of money mobilizing people to call for the postponement of the elections.
INEC spokesperson, Kayode Idowu told SaharaReporters today that INEC was not aware of Col. Dasuki’s suggestion, and that the elections will hold as scheduled.
Several sources connected to the presidency told SaharaReporters that President Jonathan wants the elections to be postponed for at least six months, a period that will enable him to appoint a new INEC chairman of his liking to oversee the elections. Professor Attahiru Jega’s tenure expires in July 2015.
With Jega out of the way, Jonathan would appoint another INEC chairman who would further postponement of the election.
SaharaReporters sources stated that President Jonathan is seriously considering an “Interim
Government of National Unity” that would elongate his tenure till 2017. That would mean he spends eight years in power as President, the equivalent of two terms.
In 2011 as he assumed office, his first effort was to call for a new six-year term arrangement, which was shot down by Nigerians. He also recently attempted to smuggle in a new constitution by the back door through the National Conference.

Bill & Melinda Gates: Our bet for 2030
(CNN)Fifteen years ago, the two of us made a bet.
We
started our foundation in 2000 with the idea that by backing innovative
work in health and education, we could help billions of people improve
their lives. The progress we've seen so far is so exciting that we are
doubling down on the bet we made 15 years ago.
Here's
our bet: The lives of people in poor countries will improve faster in
the next 15 years than at any other time in history. We're putting our
credibility, time and money behind this bet because we think there has
never been a better time to accelerate progress and have a big impact
around the world.
Here are four big breakthroughs we see coming by 2030:
First, child deaths will go down by half. In 1990, one in 10 children in the world died before age 5. Today, it's one in 20.
By 2030, it will be one in 40. Almost all countries will include
vaccines for diarrhea and pneumonia, two of the biggest killers of
children, in their immunization programs. Better sanitation will cut the
spread of disease dramatically. And we're learning how to help more
mothers adopt practices such as proper breastfeeding and skin-to-skin
contact with their babies that prevent newborns from dying in the first
month after they're born.
Second, Africa will be able to feed itself. Today, the continent has to rely on imports and food aid to feed its people, even though seven out of 10 people in sub-Saharan Africa are farmers. Part of the problem is that African farmers get just a fraction of the yields that American farmers get.
In
the next 15 years, however, innovations in farming will erase these
brutal ironies. With better fertilizer and hardier crops, African
farmers will be able to grow a greater variety of food and sell their
surpluses to supplement their family's diet with vegetables, eggs, milk,
and meat.
Even as climate change makes
farmers' job more difficult, we can get them enough innovation and
information to increase productivity by 50% for the continent overall.
Countries like Ghana are also building better roads and adopting
policies that make it easier to move food to the places where it's most
needed. In 15 years, Africa will still import food when it makes sense
to do so, but it will also export much more, eventually achieving a net
positive trade balance.
Third, mobile banking will help the poor radically transform their lives.
Today, some 2.5 billion people don't have access to cheap and easy
financial services -- a problem that makes it much more difficult to be
poor. If your savings is in the form of jewelry or livestock, for
example, you can't very well chip off tiny pieces to cover routine daily
expenses.
But
in the next 15 years, digital banking will give the poor more control
over their assets. The key will be mobile phones. Already, in developing
countries with the right regulatory framework -- such as Bangladesh --
people are using their phones to store money digitally and make
purchases. By 2030, 8% of the adults without bank accounts today will be
doing the same.
And by then, mobile
money providers will be offering the full range of financial services,
from interest-bearing savings accounts to credit to insurance.
Fourth,
as high-speed cell networks grow and smartphones become as cheap as
today's voice-only phones, online education will flourish.
Before a child even starts primary school, she will be able to use her
mom's smartphone to learn her numbers and letters. Software will be able
to see when she's having trouble with the material and adjust for her
pace. Of course, software will never replace teachers. But by allowing
teachers to do things like upload videos of themselves and get feedback
from their peers, it can connect them in new ways.
What
will it take to make sure life really does improve faster for the poor?
We need advances in technology and we need to deliver them to the
people who need them most. We also need to close the gender gap.
Countries where girls don't go to school or women can't open a business
will be left behind.
Another
crucial factor will be people who care about helping those in the
world's poorest places improve their lives. We're aiming to recruit
millions of new advocates -- we're calling them global citizens -- to
urge world leaders to be ambitious when they meet in September to adopt a
new set of goals that will guide the world's efforts to tackle disease,
poverty, and climate change for the next 15 years.
Beyond
2015, we hope these global citizens will hold governments and other
decision-makers accountable for meeting those goals.
You can show your support by signing up at www.globalcitizen.org, where you can learn how to get engaged and connect with other organizations working to make 2015 a historic year. We believe that informed, passionate people can work together to make the world a more equitable place. In fact, we're betting on it.

WhatsApp Launches On Desktop Computers
The world's most popular messaging app is now available for your desktop.
WhatsApp, which is used by 700 million users to communicate
between smartphones and tablets, can now be used on desktop computers -
but it still must be linked to the phone app.For the desktop service to work, the paired phone needs an internet connection.
Currently only those using the app on Android, Windows and BlackBerry smartphones will be able to use the desktop version - so iPhone users will have to wait.
After WhatsApp announced a crackdown on third-party desktop apps, it launches its own computer-based messaging option.
"This means all of your messages still live on your phone.
"Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations."
To set up the service, users have to visit http://web.whatsapp.com in a Google Chrome browser.
A code appears which must be scanned using the WhatsApp software.
Once completed, the app is paired with the desktop or laptop computer.
It comes as WhatsApp cracks down on users who access the service using third-party apps. Unofficial app WhatsApp Plus, for example, has been served with a cease and desist order.
WhatsApp was founded in 2009 by two former Yahoo employees. In February 2014 it was bought by Facebook for $19bn (£12.6bn).
UNBELIEVABLE!!! Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio : they have been dating for several years!
The relationship between Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio
is far more serious than we think! The beautiful Bajan Queen has a real
thing for the actor and she would even be addicted to him. They have
been hooking up for years, way before their kiss swap at The Playboy Mansion last week! If true that would mean they would have seen each other behind their partners' back?
Anyway, the lovebirds have decided to no longer hide and spend more time together, enjoying one another without taking it to the head. "“They know what they are getting into, no bullsh*t, just fun", said a source to an American website. "Rihanna found this relationship great," he adds. No more complicated relationships with rappers. The beautiful songstress has moved on!
If it is too early to say that their relationship is serious, however, the attraction of the two stars is mutual. "She always thought he was charming. She loves his style, his charming smile and his little nose," admits the source. As for Leonardo, the actor is known for his thing for pretty women. His ex-girlfriend, Bar Refaeli, do not tell us otherwise confessing to the media "Rihanna is amazing, she must be everyone's type."
In any case, Riri is not ready to let him go and even consider taking him on her home island to meet her family...
Do you think this is the beginning of a love story?

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL THE EXPRESSION OF THE CHRIST LIFE! Thursday, January 22nd . Pastor Chris
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory
(Colossians 1:27).
Christianity is the unveiling of Christ in you. It’s the outworking of the Word of God in a human person. The Christian, essentially, is the expression of the Word of God; the image of the Word, such that every step you take, and all the things you do are the outworkings of the Word of God. That’s what Jesus was when He walked the earth; He was the unveiling of the Word: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” (John 1:14). He was the manifestation of God; the express image of His person!
Now that you’re in Christ, you’re the express image of Christ. You’re Christ alive in your world today! In your family, workplace, neighbourhood, city, and country—in that place where you are—you’re the Christ that they see. Therefore, the words you speak, the life you live, the way you do the things you do, should express the Christ-life. When people look at you, they should see the glory of the new creation.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH GOD BY: PST EA ADEBOYE. DATE : THURSDAY 22nd JAN 2015
THEME :
A PEACEMAKER?
Memorise:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Matthew 5:9
Read: 2nd Corinthians 5:18-20,
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR : ISAIAH 65-66 and ACTS 13:1-25
Message :
When Adam and Eve fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, this brought enmity between the Creator and His human creator. The first man and woman decided to love what God hated (Genesis 3:6). It is unfortunate that this spiritual depravity has continued till date. Men tend to love the world more than their Creator as a result of the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life (1st John 2:14-15).
“Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Genesis 3:23-24
The enmity and separation symbolised by the scripture above lingered for a very long time until God decided to reconcile mankind to Himself. God’s expectation is that men will get reconciled to Him by accepting the hand of love He has stretched out to humanity. Like the father of the prodigal son, God is expectantly waiting for mankind to come home to eternal bliss. God wants to make children out of his human creation.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
Who are the peacemakers? The peacemakers are those who realise their state of enmity with God and endeavour to forsake their sinful ways of life in order to please Him. Apostle Paul wrote that:
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ , and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself , not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”
2nd Corinthians 5:18-19
Have you been reconciled with your Lord and Maker? Do not forget that the peacemakers are blessed; they will enjoy the benefits associated with being a child of God.

[ Politics ] Nigeria: Buhari Condemns Reduction of Petrol Pump Price
Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, APC has lashed out at President Goodluck Jonathan for reducing
the pump price of petrol from N97 to N87.
Lashing out at the President via a Facebook post, Buhari wrote,''Out of desperation, GEJ's government has increased subsidy payments and reduced fuel prices to N87 per liter. Many people think it is a good decision.
But it is not.
You think you are paying less at the Petrol station, but you cannot experience much economic developments this way. Why? The monies that have been budgeted for Education, Security, Constructions and many more will be diverted to pay for subsidy as it was never planned.
Budget - $65 per barrel.
Crude - $48 per barrel.
We are losing $17 per barrel.
In recent weeks, India and Indonesia have removed fuel subsidies. Nigeria's government decides to take on more.
Deregulation is the solution, not increased subsidy payments.
GEJ is seeking to buy your votes for N10, but your future cannot be exchanged for N10. He knows this move is not sustainable and so, he will definitely increase it, even more than N97, if you vote him in.
He waited up until 27 days to the election to make this move.
